In my experience, muscle confusion (MC) is the best and the most effective training method out there. In short, its purpose is to create variety in your training. Use of this variety in the MC method prevents development plateaus and keeps your muscles growing, since they become accustomed to training programs very quickly. By developing and performing different exercises with a variety of sets and repetitions, sufficient variety is introduced, and results will soon follow.
By cycling or changing your training program every few weeks, your muscles are unable to adapt to the exercises. This forces your muscles to grow quicker than with any other training method. That's why MC is so effective to implement. One way to use MC is to vary the exercises. For example, if you were doing a barbell incline chest press, you could use a hammer strength incline machine one week and then the following week you could do a dumbbell incline press. While you're still working the upper chest muscles, you're hitting them from a different angle and this will stimulate new muscle growth. By using the MC principle you're guaranteeing yourself consistent results in your fitness and resistance training workout.
Tips for using the muscle confusion principle:
1. Change your exercises (about every four weeks).
2. Use free weights, cables or resistance bands in your workout.
3. Vary the repetitions and the number of sets you use.
By applying these tips to your strength training or workout program, maximum results can be achieved. Doing so will guarantee rapid muscle growth and the body that you have dreamed about.
In addition to strength training, a cardiovascular workout is an important component of a balanced fitness program. Choose from biking, kickboxing, running, walking, or whatever else you can do to keep your heart rate elevated for at least 45 minutes. I have found that adding boxing to my workouts has helped me burn more fat than anything else, sometimes up to 1100 calories per session!
